Hi,
I am struggling to understand how and where surround sound decoding is done - this is my setup:
Raspberry Pi with Hifiberry DAC (http://www.hifiberry.com/dac) streaming high quality (320kb) content from Spotify and playing local mp3 files.
The DAC outputs 2 channel, so if I plug it into an receiver that supports surround sound, will that receiver turn it into 5.1 or is it forever in stereo only?
My ideal would be to plug it into a set of surround sound PC speakers to I need not worry about dealing with switching on and off, changing inputs etc as the raspberry pi is running as a headless player and I control it (including volume) from my phone/laptop etc.
