Hi forumites.  On this forum and elsewhere I have come across comments like: I don't like this speaker/amp/etc. it sounds bright, warm, coloured, muddied, etc, if we discount  the fact that people have specific tastes and preferences, I am still left with a conundrum. Let us assume that you connect speaker A to amplifier B and you come to a  conclusion about speaker A, how can you conclude that you don't like speaker A because, for example, it is too bright? Technically why cant  you not say that you do not like amplifier B because it is too bright? The fact that you have tested amplifier B with many speakers and it did not sound bright does not mean that it is not a bright sounding amp. My assertion is that if a speaker or amp is transparent, then you can use it to review of the rest of the components in the system. Comments please>
