Hi guys,

I recently bought a pair of B&W 801 series 80 speakers from a reputable dealer down in Port Elizabeth. Milesgopal here on the forum was kind enough to go and have a look and do an assessment for me. Needless to say the feedback recommended that the cabs be refurbished as the veneer took quite a beating over the years - luckily the drivers were all in very good condition. From the look of it, it looks like the rubber surrounds of the drivers have been replaced.

So over the weekend I took a bit of time and started redoing the cloth on both units - I was lucky enough to find exactly the same colour material with the same stretch which made things quite easy. Luckily my wife helped with the recovering of the top part and midrange speaker grill so it was a breeze at the end of the day. The woofer grills will be finished during this week as some stiching is necessary. I then started sanding down the one unit (walnutt veneer) which also went quite easy with an electric sander as aid. Finished with 240 grit sanding, oiled and Bob's your uncle. I have attached some pics - please excuse the quality of pics as I took it with my phone.

I must say I enjoy these speakers quite a lot - they have a wonderful full rich sound to them yet has enough detail to keep you sitting upright and enjoy the music. Currently driving them with a Primaluna Valve amp but also have a Phase Linear pre/power combo being serviced at the moment which will do duty later on.
