AVR and Smart TV Setup

Good day all...

I am a noob with audio setup.

I have a Hisense smart tv 55?.
It has the following inputs:
1. Optical
2. AV
3. HDMI

I have a Denon AVR 2802 receiver with either AV or Optical inputs.

I stream DSTV on my smart tv via the app and connected the tv to the AVR via optical cable.

My problem is when i change the tv speakers to optical output I receive no sound on the speakers.

Am I doing something wrong?
