Whilst I am not a fan of the term "audiophile", it is expedient to simply use that turn-of-phrase in this instance. When initially acquiring our audio gear, it is a necessary function to listen to the sonic presentation of said equipment in order to create a system that delivers a sound profile which we find pleasing and can live with. Over time and with experience, we learn that we will always have to make compromises as no one piece of equipment can do everything right. At this point one ideally shifts the focus back to where it belongs, listening to the music but, some fall into the trap of always listening to the equipment and as a result are the ones who suffer from "upgradetitus". The affliction results in a permanent state of low-grade dissatisfaction and can be detrimental to the bank account.
