Staining Baltic Birch

I really like the finish on this layered speaker - seems as if the Baltic Birch was slightly stained to produce a darker shade...

Can I get the same finish with normal oiling/polishing?

Do you guys know how difficult it is to obtain the same finish? Any experience with staining Baltic Birch layers?
