I have always enjoyed my Pioneer and Quad kit - maybe not the ultimate in transparency but it always pleasant.

Like most so called audiophiles one changes kit in the hope of increasing the enjoyment factor.

The problem is - as the kit gets better the recording quality becomes critical. Suddenly you start to hear the house sound of BIS, DG, Naxos etc. CD' s you enjoyed on the Pioneer/Quad kit suddenly loose their magic in a high resolution system.

Looking at my CD collection - the SACD's are usually better sounding but most of my of Redbook CD's are compromised.

I love to know what others are doing to source quality source material ?

Or - Does it suggest that one could reach a stage where upgrading a system further, becomes a downgrade in musical enjoyment?
