Today, I was "lent" a record player and to be clear, I've never used a record player and have a few clarification questions.

The amp was set to default MM and when I switched to MC - it sounded awful, so I presume this is an MM cartridge.
what I found surprising is that it was "loud". The listening volume was around the 8am position, whereas with a CD Player I have to crank it to 10am to get the same volume.
why would this be ?

I noticed that the turntable seemed a bit warped - undulating a bit. This is not normal right ? Would this contribute to some of the scratchiness I heard ?
Belt driven unit. It's an old Kenwood and 12V.
Needed a bit of coaxing to get it turning. Would this mean the belt or motor is on the way out ?

Thanks all
