I'm trying to hook up a freebie Pioneer PL-555Z turntable to my el-cheapo NAD 3150 amplifier.

The TT has 2 wires coming out of the unit, the usual (crappy) RCA's that I obviously need to connect to the Phono section of the amp but there's also a single black wire that ends in a plug that looks like a 3.5mm male mono plug ... is this black wire the ground wire and if so do I simply snip of the stupid plug and connect the bare wire to the ground post on the back of the NAD?

If not, what the hell is this mono terminated wire then?  :help:

Thanx a lot!
