Hi,
Hoping someone can help clear this up.
Ive setup FreeNAS with 2x 2TB in a RAID 1 config, however when I view the status page in FreeNAS, it shows the RAID mount with a total capacity of 1.6T only.
Now I know that the manufacturer's definition of 2TB varies, and it is close to 1.8T is reality, as also indicated by FreeNAS - so I was expecting at least 1.8T.
My question however is what has happened to the other 200GB ? As it stands, even with 4x 2TB in 2x RAID 1 configurations, I will get only 3.2GB. I might be happier : if I could squeeze a further 400GB out of that config.
With regards to my choice of RAID1 - after careful consideration I decided against RAID5 - afraid of the risk of not being able to recover after a disk failure. Mirroring is the best option for me.
Thanks
