Started looking at my very early Quad 44 preamp last night. Uhmm it needs a clean desperately, tho not as bad as the very mangled Quad 22 I also have. That one is half disassembled and no valves at all. Things are missing on it.
Back to the 44. See this here QUAD II collection for it’s origins.
Stripped it down and tested the Transformer and PSU. The fuse fell apart on me, the end cap glue let go…. All the caps checked out and after pulling them modules and disconnecting everything from the PSU board, it came alive.
Now getting it cleaned up, tested and assembled. There may be a few mods in the works as well.
