I was just admiring a lady giving DIY tips on how to wire a mains plug on the TV programme Pasella. She knew exactly what to do and the right tools to use. Everything was going fine until she told the whole of South Africa where to put the red and brown wires... brown on the left and blue on the right! 
Beware, everyone who doesn't know: Brown is live; it goes to the right hand terminal. Blue is neutral, and goes on the left. The plug will have an N or L embossed on it to identify the pins, accordingly.
Do it the wrong way, and you could find yourself unprotected by your house's earth leakage circuit, should a fault develop.
