Hi All,
There has been quite a bit of interest lately in another local kit. Before I do any further work, it is time to see where your appetite lies in terms of the type of speaker (and price) you are interested in.
The idea is to start development early next year, and for the kit to be made available around March / April next year.
The Litil kit I designed some time ago was quite a success, with many people building and enjoying them. As with the Litil kit, there will be a full 20 pages or more worth of documentation and drawings to help you, and you will have the option of purchasing the kit with all parts (other than the wood), or purchasing only the kit plans.
Now, for a discussion around some of the voting options:
- Inexpensive mirco: This will be a rework of the existing Litil kit, using 3.5" bass and 1" tweeeter.
- High quality micro: There are some real nice 4" drivers, paired with a small ring radiator or similar.
- Inexpensive standmount: Using 5" drivers
- High quality standmount: As per above, but with better drivers and better components.
- Inexpensive floorstander: Similar to inexpensive standmount, but with more bass. Also more implementation options. 5", 6", or 7" bass drivers (TBC)
- High quality floorstander: Similar to above, but with better drivers and better components.
So, what does inexpensive and high quality mean?
* Inexpensive micro speaker means a budget of around R3k (TBC)
* Inexpenive everywhere else means a budget of around R 6k to R 7k (TBC)
* High quallity everywhere means a budget of around R 10k to R 12k (TBC)
Please feel free to vote, and also post your comments / questions, etc here. The poll will run for the next 30 days.
Ian.
