Mark Levinson no 36 DAC

I auditioned the Mark Levinson 36 Dac in my system this weekend:

Rotel RCD971 CD Player
M/L 38s pre
M/L 331 Power
B&W 802N Speakers

The DAC seems to add sparkle and loudness (Volume) to most standard discs but doesn't seem to improve things on well recorded (Stockfisch) discs at all??

Also the DAC's HDCD capability is actualy inferior to the stand alone Rotel which I find strange. The DAC

Has anyone out there had experience with this DAC?

I have no experience when it comes to DAC's and would appreciate any feedback.

The asking price without cables is R8500.00 is this in line??
