Does lowering the needle onto a record gently using the lever damage the record at all? I'm asking because it seems to me that the needle could potentially ride on the land area between the grooves before dropping into the groove. I'm curious whether this causes any audible damage. Is it just better to let valuable vinyl play right through and use the lead-in area only for needle placement?
