I've finally gotten my hands on a 3m Toslink optical cable.
This has replaced the RCA out from my DAC into my amp.
To my ear there is a marked difference in the tightness of the bass.
Any ideas on why the bass in particular?
The DAC is a Xonar U3, nothing special but miles better than my laptop's onboard sound.
By taking the digital signal from the USB and outputting digital optical signal, is the DAC's processing essentially bypassed, and left to my decent Cambridge amp?
Whereas before the cheapie DAC had to process digital to analogue and output the analogue signal to the RCA connection, not leaving the work to my amp.
Do I understand the 'physics' correctly?
