I have just acquired the T Rex that Rudi originally built for Daan Jakobs about 10 years ago , in a swop deal from [member=707]xumbug[/member] . This amp is built like a tank , but with finesse . Solidly , beautifully with a practical layout . Half the space inside the chassis is taken up by 2 huge 500VA C-core transformers . Basically these are 2 poweramp channels , each with it's own dedicated power supply built into one chassis . Then there are 2x Filter boards , each with with 6x Sprague capacitors and schottsky diode rectification ; 2x regulator boards ; and finally the 2x poweramp boards with BUV20 output transistors . To my knowledge this is one of the earlier T Rex's .

Most of this amp consists of powersupply and power regulation , one can quickly see the importance that Rudi gives to Power supply and regulation thereof . The difference between a good and stellar amplifier often comes down to power supply and regulation , once the audio circuit itself is taken care of and sorted . My first hands on experience with , and consciousness thereof , was  with the '89-'96 John Linsey Hood 80W design published in Wireless world . I purchased a kit built Hart JLH K1100 from [member=2569]Kent Kassler[/member] .

Look a bit further down the page in this link for the amplifier and regulation circuit design : https://www.angelfire.com/sd/paulkemble/sound3d.html

Some topless porn of the T Rex that Rudi built for Daan Jakobs  ;) The opamp at the input is a comparator to set DC-offset ( no caps at input or output )

From the moment I had the amp up and running , I was amazed by the resolve and smoothness of the sound . So musical too , with a high , deep and wide soundstage . Incredibly good . This is day 1 , and I can't wait to hear more . I have the amp running from a Wim Bouman valve pre with a CA 615C cd player as source for now .

I am quite proud to finally be an owner of a Geco poweramp . I can only imagine how good the Vangaurd must be if this one sounds so good . For those of you that can afford a Vangaurd , I'd suggest you do so now .  :2thumbs:

All that said , I'd like to learn more about regulation now , and how to design regulation circuits . One doesn't come across it too often in the tube/valve world , off the top of my head , all I can think of is [member=772]handsome[/member] 's Hardcore headbanger . https://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,88509.msg1007311.html#msg1007311
