This question was buried under the more interesting topic of proper PC AMPs / DACs in my other thread, so I'm starting a new one in the hopes of getting some answers
I'm looking for a decent entry-level headphones AMP/DAC combo for my wife. USB powered is fine, locally available would be ideal, not breaking the bank would be great too
I've seen the Audioquest Dragonfly Black v1.5 recommended, though it's a little pricey at R1,800 locally. Also - are the volume controls software-based? There's a dual boot of Ubuntu / Windows on the PC she uses, and I doubt they have Linux software / drivers for it. Would that be a problem?
Any other options out there, maybe from some less mainstream but equally good brands?
Thanks!
