Hi all,
I have been given some Ram buy a client who has upgraded their server and don't know what to do with it. It is ECC registered ram and is HP specific - part number 500209-061. I have 12 dimm modules of 2gb each, so 24gb.
You will see that I am looking for a HP G6 server in the wanted section. As I understand things, ECC RAM needs memory driver for it to work, so a supported motherboard is needed. All XEON based servers should support this right? I know that AMD consumer boards also support ECC ram, but the are normally only 4 or 6 slots.
Question: Although the ram is for specific HP server platforms, RAM is RAM right? So why cant I use these Ram modules in say a Dell 2950 server?
Thanks
