There appears to be a disconnect in the way music is mixed, mastered and produced in relation to the way in which it is reproduced and heard by the intended end user. Studio monitors are designed to have a maximally flat response. They are to my ears lean, clinical, detailed and uber revealing. What is heard in the studio when creating the music simply cannot be reproduced by the standard / average hifi speaker in the home environment and even if it could, it tends to be very fatiguing after a while and not suited to extended listening sessions. So what is the point? Surely using respected brands of hifi speakers in a “reasonably” treated room that would approximate what someone can reasonably achieve at home, would be a better way of ensuring that what is created can be reproduced. Just a thought.
