Newbie to the forum, although I've browsed for many months!
I have now reached the stage where I am seeking advice please:
I have some fairly old equipment - it was great in it's day (allegedly) & I've recently resurrected it out of storage, however it has a few "niggles" & I'm wondering whether to have the various items serviced & keep them or whether to trade/toss them!
Items are as follows:
1 x pair Infinity Reference Series 61i floor standers. No longer have the spiked feet. Speaker connects are damaged/broken (can still connect speakers to them) Rubber surround/support to one of the driver units is torn & the cones all feel "tacky" to the touch.
1 x pair Boston CR95 floor standers. Veneer is "lifting/peeling" along the lower edge of 1 speaker, otherwise in good condition.
1 x pair Boston HD7 surround/bookshelf speakers. Good condition.
1 x pair Boston HD5 bookshelf speakers. Good condition. Unused at present!
1 x Boston CRC Centre Speaker - passive repeater needs replacing.
1 x Sansui PD-30 DD Turntable. Fully automatic - the raising/lowering of the tone arm works intermittently & it doesn't always auto-return at the end of the LP.
1 x Rotel RA 980 BS Stereo Amplifier. Volume makes a "scratchy/static" sound through the speakers when turned. Sometimes only works on one channel when in stereo mode - fine in mono mode & if the mono/stereo switch is flicked between the two modes a few times then stereo mode works fine again........
1 x Rotel RCD 965 BX "Limited Edition"
CD player. Sometimes only plays right channel, sometimes both (relevant discs play fine in a different player so not the disc!).
1 x Rotel RCD 955 AX CD Player. Door open/close mechanism no longer works. I've had this repaired before some years ago by Bobby at (I think) Sound Systems in Hyde Park - they were then the Rotel & Boston agents in SA. No longer there though!
1 x Yamaha KX 260 Cassette Deck. Counter no longer works. Operation of FF & RW is intermittent - sometimes it works, other times not!
1 x Sony ST-JX 401 Tuner. Still works 100%.
1 x Sansui T 707 Tuner. Untested. Was working 100% when replaced with the aforementioned Sony. Unused at present.
1 x Marantz SR 4001 AV Surround receiver. Still works 100%, no remote though!
Marantz, CR95's & HD7's with CRC & RCD 955 AX are in living room as home theatre/entertainment system.
Remainder are in my home office for occasional listening pleasure (mainly of vinyl). Except when it doesn't work properly, then I use a B & W Zeppelin which is fuss free!
So, do I dispose of this lot, or get it repaired/serviced & keep?
Who would be able to service/repair?
Would it even be worth the time & money spent to repair it?
