Arcam irDAC R6400 at Audico - is there a better deal?

Thank you for your helpful responses! Not looking for the ultimate DAC, just something like the Arcam with no jarring shortfalls, one optical and one coax input, and RCA outputs.

Arcam irDAC R6400 at Audico - is there a better deal?

This sale price over at Audico caught me eye: irDAC for R6400.  Unfortunately it's out of stock already.  Are there any similar/better deals out there, either price- or technology-wise?

Cheap non-HDMI AV amps that are good for stereo?

That depends on what i can get for my existing components.

Cheap non-HDMI AV amps that are good for stereo?

If I can source something that sounds decent and is not expensive, then some cash right now would be good. But if there's no such thing, I'll survive.

Cheap non-HDMI AV amps that are good for stereo?

This may be a long shot, but are there any affordable pre-HDMI AV amps that do good stereo?  I'm looking to swap my current setup for one, preferably that can push out at least 90W per channel and that has a good DAC on board. My current setup includes: One Rega Cursa preamplifier (it has a...

    What's better than a Mede8er?

I should add that with the exception of Wavpack and DRM'd M4A, the Mede8er decodes just about every audio format out there, including 24-bit FLAC. As an all-in-one device, it works more than just tolerably well; plus it's one of the few media streamers that has coax out.

    What's better than a Mede8er?

Thanks, @naughty -- no, the Mede8er has been behaving well. I think this is just me being a fiddler again. Can never leave well enough alone :-)

    What's better than a Mede8er?

Yes, Mede8er to DAC via coax and from DAC to amp via analogue RCAs. No, I wouldn't dream of using the Mede8er's onboard DAC. I was asking about the quality of digital passthrough from the Mede8er. It's not just a matter of 1s and 0s, as I understand. Clocking and jitter and error correction...

    What's better than a Mede8er?

So I take it there aren't too many people here who believe in the kind of voodoo that outfits like Audioquest get up to with their "audiophile-grade" USB cables?

    What's better than a Mede8er?

Ah, erm, so now we should discuss the best USB cable for audio playback ...?

    What's better than a Mede8er?

Thanks, that's quite intriguing, but I just know I'm going to screw up somewhere if I build the box myself.  Also, the complexity involved in getting the OpenElec box in the lounge to recognise all my Windows shares in the study is not something I'd like to sukkel with. However, if someone is...

    What's better than a Mede8er?

Now if I could just install Kodi on a Mede8er  ;D

    What's better than a Mede8er?

Just about all my audio and video travel via a Mede8er to my two-channel system. A network cable in the ceiling connects the hard drives in my study to the system in the lounge. I'm happy with this arrangement, but lately I've been wondering if I'm doing a disservice to the digital audio passing...

Best coax audio cable you've ever used?

Yep, it looks like the Kimber KS 2020 sets a high-water mark. http://www.audioreview.com/cat/cables/speaker-cables/kimber-kable/ks-2020/prd_116479_1584crx.aspx

Best coax audio cable you've ever used?

I wonder if it is similar to Kimber's coax Select KS 2020?  http://www.stereotimes.com/cables012003.shtml

Best coax audio cable you've ever used?

That Belden (which I bought from Blue Jeans Cable) is amazing for things like balance, detail and soundstage. As I said earlier, it's just that it doesn't quite foreground vocals sufficiently (according to my taste, anyway).

Best coax audio cable you've ever used?

Thanks, Guillaume. You got my mail requesting a price list?  :groovy:

Best coax audio cable you've ever used?

That's a lot of people voting for the Kimber D60 illuminati. Half a metre is going second hand for around 160 USD, I see.  Anyone care to flog one or point me in the right direction?

Best coax audio cable you've ever used?

One little cable carries most of my music. It connects my Mede8er to my not inexpensive DAC. In my experience, it has a significant impact on overall audio quality. I've tried the following: >> Wireworld 6 Starlight >> LAT International DI-30 Signature >> Belden 1694A The Belden was by far the...
