Adding monoblocks to an AV receiver

Thank you. I go through these phases. If its not something I need to do on the house, then its modifying my car to make it faster, or the sound at home. I saw a pair of Audio Geometry monoblocks on the AVSA site for R 1000, and a Yamaha RXV750 for R 3000. Now for R4000 I would have some serious...

Adding monoblocks to an AV receiver

Hi all I tried searching on the forum, but no joy. This is probably a silly question, but is it worth doing the above? I am trying to apply the car amplifiers concept to home theater. However the the pre-amp in my car doesn't have DSP's, so am not sure how it would work.

    Some thoughts....

vs the Sony STR-DA 5000-ES for R5000.  Thats an S-Master Sony amplifier.... The Yamaha is in JHB though :(

    Some thoughts....

LOL.. Hey, I am on a path.  On that point, I appreciate the music a great deal more after the speakers. I also appreciate the time and effort some bands have gone through to achieve certain type sound. I must admit that, at times, I get so intent on listening for new instruments/sounds that I...

    Some thoughts....

Sorry, need to qualify the first 2 points.. 1. IMAX  ;D 2. Every instance of even the cymbal and shaker has been carefully planned by the person writing the music to express their emotions, and perhaps to create some emotion within the listener. So would you be doing justice to the...

    Some thoughts....

Number 1 niggle Most AV enthusiast are trying to have their sound and audio in their homes to be as good as a cinema... if not better. The last time I was at a cinema, I didn't want to look like a complete git by standing on the seat to try to see what was the name of the speakers on the walls...

    Listen Listen and Listen

LOL Contrary to popular belief, I do like my wife and don't really want to get divorced anytime soon. As much as I like the speakers and the sound, the speakers have to live around my lifestyle and furniture (or lack thereof). Was thinking about moving the speakers a bit further, but the lounge...

    Listen Listen and Listen

Thanks for the advice. Have already moved the table to the corner of the room. I cant see myself getting rid of the tiles anytime soon though . Would a large rug in the middle of the room help ??

    Listen Listen and Listen

And it comes in at a nice price too $900. OUCH . Will put it on my Christmas list and see if Santa Clause thinks that I have been a good boy. I see that it is a DVD and SACD player. How would I connect it, as the receiver has inputs for both DVD and SACD.?

    Listen Listen and Listen

Yes I have .. I have spent a week with the speakers and have played and listened to them at every available opportunity. (You don't really NEED the commentary when watching cricket!!!) I was worried that I would break the tray on the dvd player. Have been fiddling with speaker placement and...

    Nothing is ever easy

Actually, right now it is more relief than anything else. I would have been really disappointed if the speakers sounded terrible at my house. They are the Monitor V4. The current brochure has the V5. Will take some pics tonight. Hopefully both speakers are looking like Catherine Zeta-Jones by...

    Nothing is ever easy

I wish I had the electrical know how, the time and the DIY skills to take on a project like that. It must be so satisfying listening to a pair of speakers that you have built by yourself. LOL lucky you.

    Nothing is ever easy

I know exactly what you mean. I am already trying to coax my wife into saying that we urgently need a new mid. The key would be to make it seem as if it was her idea. That way I still would still be allowed to sleep in the bedroom for the rest of the year  ;D. Oh and I can pick up the other...

    Nothing is ever easy

I had a really busy evening . The guys from Mod 'n Sound were busy renovating the new place and they were kind enough to take the speakers to the new shop for me to pick up after hours. While unpacking, I  see that there are no grilles.  :( Then I look for the speaker cables I ordered and...

    Listen Listen and Listen

I asked if they would let me hear the speakers with my receiver and they agreed. So it was rush home, unplug receiver, get family in the car (you get lotsa brownie points when your better half agrees with your purchase) and off to MOD N SOUND. Andre hooked up the amp and  thought I wanted to...

    Listen Listen and Listen

They are in the middle of a move, hence the speakers becoming available, and I am  not sure as to how accommodating they would be. I will ask though. If it doesn't sound good with my receiver after spending so much money, I am gonna cry.

    Listen Listen and Listen

I just got off the phone with Mod N Sound and they are offering me a pair of demo Paradigm Monitor 7's for a reasonably good price. They are not the right color (they are cherry and I would have liked black ash) , but fall within my budget. I am going there this afternoon for a final listen and...

    Listen Listen and Listen

I have no problem buying second hand. The problem is demo-ing the equipment, and there is very little on the AVSA site for equipment in DBN  :-[

    Listen Listen and Listen

The best advice I have got from the forum was to listen, and it has changed what I want to hear when I listen to music. I used to like the boom and the fact that the sub could rattle my living room and the windows in the bedroom. The clarity is now appealing to me, hearing each instrument...

    Listen Listen and Listen

Yip Audio Excellence on my list for this weekend. I realize that I may need to up my budget for the speakers. And the more I listen, the more confusing it all gets. I am wondering if anyone is truly happy with the sound that they have.
