    New vs Old AVR's

Went ahead and tested them on my pc with the AVR mic. Pretty cool stuff. They seem to cut at about 100Hz but they still sound better at 150Hz. It's probably the equalizing or the room response. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B78EQ-0PizDha1AwV2ZUM2xpaFE/view?usp=sharing

Need help for best playback of downloaded movies

Are you sure you were actually getting the AAC or 5.1 from the movies and not just PCM that the amp mixes? I never got it to work until I once sat down for a few hours and played around with it. Make sure it's on in VLC and then the sample rate on your sound card needs to be 24 bits and...

    SD PVR replacement announcement

Seriously you got R2k for the SD PVR? I thought they went for like R400 on gumtree. I think ours is broken or something compared to the Explora I think it's a useless piece of crap with an extra viewing channel. It's slow, unresponsive and those remotes break every 3 months.

    SD PVR replacement announcement

Do you guys think I can go ahead and insure my SD PVR now and get the upgrade? What is it upgrading to? I'd take a new Explora over SD any day. :D

    New vs Old AVR's

Wharfedale Valdus 100's http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-4626-discontinued-wharfedale-valdus-100-speakers.aspx Can't really find any data about them except on ebay that says they're rated for 60Hz. I can probably get a frequency response for the fun of it. They are budget speakers.

    Tough soldering lesson nr 1

Haha, I've seen this on an oscilloscope a lot of noise :D. The leads can be in the air around it and it'll pick it up clearly.

    New vs Old AVR's

Just trying to get as much info as possible. Now I got some confirmation that my AVR is decent  :). Today I moved my fronts about 15cm outward out of a large open cabinet on to stands and now my receiver picks them up as 150Hz speakers instead of 60Hz via audyssey. It sounds 100% better. I...

    New vs Old AVR's

Haha good thoughts :). It seems I'll burn and die if I buy better one :D .. the risks involved. Scrarfussi those "too many factors" I would love if you can elaborate on that. I'm not that interested in if I should but more why I would. .. @Timba "You can get hd picture by connecting hdmi...

    New vs Old AVR's

I currently own a Onkyo TX-SR-606. Which is a relatively old AVR 7-8 years. Now my question is if you don't need 1080p up scaling and you don't need 3D processing in your AVR and the other goodies. How does the sound compare between old and new AVR's? Is it worth it to save a bit and buy a...

    DSTV Explora in a complex

The DSTV customer service when you call in actually guided me through my installation when I was uncertain, they're extremely helpful and they collected mine for repairs or a check up through a pm to an admin on the DSTV forums as well as giving a replacement explora while mine was gone.

    DSTV Explora in a complex

I doubt it's the dish. If you ran a PVR before it should work. I had a SD PVR upgrade to Explora with the SD now in extra view and the signal is fine. You have two cables coming out of the dish so you have a Twin LNB. I agree with the above make sure your connections are correct. If you still...
