They can crack on their own. Lots of the rather expensive G9's randomly crack. But yeah, as above, panel cost is the 90% cost of the unit. Add in labour as noted, and not cost effective. I've done it in the past when living in China, as panels can be sourced easily, and relatively cheaply...
