phono making buzzing noise

Hi ,can anyone assist me. I have connected RCA to the phono on a Cambridge stereo receiver ,sometimes i get a loud buzzing noise ,its loud.
Will it damage my amp or my speakers? Not sure what is causing this loud buzzing sound ,could it be the RCA quality or maybe i need to use the ground on my Cambridge Amp.
I would like to use the phono to connect a turntable but worried about the loud buzzing sound.
