I've done it many times, as I'm sure many others have, connecting a cellphone(or similar portable device) headphone output to the line level input of an preamp/amplifier.
From what I understand there will be impedance and voltage miss match but what are the implications of doing this from a sound quality perspective?
Assuming the portable device is of very high quality and the headphone output is good, ie focusing purely on the theoretical drawbacks of connecting a headphone output to line level inputs and not how rubbish many portable device headphone outputs can be(which they often are).
I know there will be reduced headroom but I've never found the headphone output of any device to be so low that I struggle to get sufficient volume with any 20w(even less has been fine) and above integrated amplifier.
