[QUOTE="Cleansound, post: 19253"] I think the problem we have is that some people are using old cartridges and poor phonostages, the tonearms are also not set-up correctly. The other problem is that people excpect to put on any old record and get blown away, I have an original Stevie Ray Vaughn-Couldn't stand the weather and it sounds fantastic but I can't say the same for the Dire Straits-Dire Straits record I have, it snaps crackles and pops, it has surface noise and it sounds flat, but my remastered virgin vinyl copy of the same record will blow your mind. I will say, get a modern cartridge a nice outboard phonostage, like a Project and a relatively decent table and you will be on par with most mid priced cdp's. But comparing a 3k cdp with a 3k tt. could be dissapointing. There are some excellent entry level cdp's available. I have to say this weekend past, I let my Droplet warm up for two days and sat down to do some serious listening and it was most satisfying. It is actually very analogue sounding thanks to the two 6h30 tubes being used on the output stage and the plus factor was, as I was feeling very tired and groggy this weekend, was the simplicity of just putting on a cd.
