I use a spreadsheet that is part of my music cataloguing workbook in a 20 year old laptop that resides in my listening room. I add a sheet for each different cartridge/turntable. The sheet provides an option to record in sides or hours and there are various inputs such as the date of installation, your date of birth, average record playing time per side in minutes and anticipated hours of use before replacement. Output information gives overall average hours of use per day, average in each month and each year, provides an estimated replacement date and how old you will be. I use the sides method. When I stop listening for the day, I count & enter the number of sides played, which gives me the hours, which are then entered into the relevant date cell. One either has to recall the sides played or leave a pile of the records played for counting at the end of the day. Microridge type styli last five to eight times longer than elliptical and are consequently not only better sounding but also better value.
