It's no secret how much I love Troy.  It has some below-par acting and some
bad dialogue but it remains to this day one of the most-watched movies in my
collection.

If some of you have seen this movie once - and didn't like it... then join the club.
I thought it was average at best when I 1st saw it many years ago, but Troy is one
of those movies that just needs a 2nd watch and u soon realise that this is truly
something special.

I recently picked up a copy of Troy - Director's Cut on Bluray and sat back to enjoy
my all-time favorite epic movie. Before the credits start the movie's director Wolfgang Peterson, takes a minute to explain that the regular Theatrical Version
(the one we've all seen, and the one I love) was not the version he wanted
for release in theatres but was forced to do so due to strict censorship, time
and budget constraints. Apparently, the movie's background music by James
Horner was not yet ready so they compromised for the main scenes.

The Director's Cut runs 30min longer, has more graphic violence, nudity
and better music, plot and character development, we're told. It's the
"definitive" version.

And now for the actual review...
What a crock o' shit!  Wolfgang Peterson should be smacked! for fucking up
his own good movie.  But trying to pass this SHIT off as the definitive version??
For THAT... he should be shot!

Improved character development?
If you consider the Great King Priam developing into a vengeful King with a lust for blood, to be an improvement, then maybe.

Improved musical score?
LMFAO!  Seriously?? This is supposed to be an improvement? Whatta moron!
All key scenes in the movie, the Hector/Achilles Fight and the Fall Of Troy
have now stupidly been dumbed-down with a minimalistic musical score that
has absolutely NO emotional impact WHATSOEVER!

Why not just choose the Theatrical Version?
As if ruining the Hector/Achilles battle wasn't bad enough, the moron goes
and decides to not give us the choice of a Theatrical Version on this Disc
(Like every other special edition I've owned.)
Of course, this would have been totally forgiveable had this turned out to be
BETTER than the original version... But my decision of "Off with his head!"
Still stands.

*Thank God this bullshit version wasn't released in theatres.  Cos this version is
just SHIT...no matter how many times you see it.  And just serves to prove that
some things are best left alone.
