So, I have this Garrard SP25, slight hum on the right channel.
After having bought a similiar one from Altie, I photographed his wiring.
And there I start, re-earthing, resoldering the RCA's to the junction point.
Hum reduced. Remove solder, clean contacts again, resolder.
WOW, hum is gone. Put LP on, no sound, damn, forgot to plug the RCA's back in the amp.
Plug them back in, moer of a hum back, worse than before.
At this stage, I decided, completely new RCA leads, mounting on outside of plinth, terminated in females, plug in audioquest interconnects, hum still there. Fed up and tired after an hour and burnt fingers, I switch off the soldering iron, hum completely gone, good clean channels.
Lesson: Use a different plug point for the soldering iron.
At the end I am happy with the with the lessons learnt, most important, well second to the one above, solid clean soldered connections makes a world of difference.
