This weekend, I bought some records at the monthly Micogram fair (in Northcliff). Three used and one new. So I went home to sample my purchases...

What was really annoying, was that two of the albums had really irritating and consistent static noise. I would've expected that of the used albums, but it was actually one of the used ones, and the brand new record. And the used album was housed in a Nagaoka sleeve, so the previous owner (I assume) obviously cared for the records as well. And both were visibly flawless, so no apparent scratches.

I was actually worried that it was my turntable or cartridge, but my reference albums didn't have the noise. I also wiped both records with an anti-static brush before playing.

Any ideas what would cause this, or how to solve it? It did seem as if the noise was more pronounced on certain tracks, i.e. it didn't affect the entire record.
