I believe that more and more manufacturers will move towards a marketing strategy that will eliminate the distributor layer outside their home country as they begin to move more toward a "direct on-line sales channel" strategy in their domestic markets. It is also likely that these same manufacturers will not want to staff-up to support individual dealers - whether at home or abroad - will eventually move (in those markets with sufficient market potential) to using the same direct marketing channels for remote markets as those they use to service their domestic markets. Mackintosh and PS Audio (for some of their lower priced items) have already started this channel shift and it would be surprising if more manufacturers did not follow their leads... Which, I'm afraid, is going to have an impact on decent audio gear... The lack of the ability to "consult with someone with an audio background", the lack of the ability to audition different products from different stables, etc. will accelerate the decline in a market already under pressure from competition for Joe Public's disposable income... :(
