Calling all the tube buffs! If you take a look at the small tubes in my Copland,you will notice a pair of Electo Harmonix 12ax7's in the V1 position which I think is the 1st pair of input tubes.The other 2 pairs are vintage Heinz Kaufman 12au7wa's[one pair is apparently used as a phase splitter] I have a feeling that I should try replacing the EH's with some respectable NOS or lightly used vintage tubes.Lets say I am curious to see what the effect will be anyway.I would suppose that the EH's are probably sonically inferior to many of the good vintage ones.I am quite interested in the 5751 type that seem to be regarded as good for hifi.
I have already ordered replacements for the output EH 6550's.I have opted for the new Tungsol 6550's.I have heard that they are nice and sweet sounding.
