Thought I'd share my later project for those interested in seeing. I purchased this AR XA some time ago, it wasn't in the greatest condition and the arm was missing parts so I decided to construct a new plinth from a piece of Kiaat I had laying around and also replace the tonearm with a Rega arm. It's taken some time to get to where I am now, I only really get time to work on projects over weekends. It's pretty much complete, all that's left is to fine tune the suspension and align the cartridge.
Anyway, here are some pictures.

After lots of sanding the first finish went on, I wanted the wood grain to pop so I decided to try my own concoction of Danish oil firs and finish that with a few coats of Shellac and paste wax.
This was after 3 coats of Danish oil:
