The first song I hear by Al Jarreau really blew me away - Spain. To this day it's one of my favourite songs. I subsequently discovered that this was a remake of a Chick Corea/Return To Forever instrumental. On that first album he also had Dave Bubeck's Blue Rondo a la Turk. Now AJ had done many cover songs, but the ones that intrigue me are where he puts lyrics to songs that were originally instrumentals. He retains the original melody and so ends up singing the part of the lead instrument. Below are a few examples that I know of. The last one I only discovered a couple of days ago. Do you know of any others that he has done? Please post it here.
