I second Chris. On older 32 bit i preferred xp, with all the service pack upgrades mind you. The newer windows have too many unused background processes etc i feel. Needs more resources but does not add much value. But, more RAM is always good, irrespective of the OS.

Update on my microserver : I installed the 6450 first. Simple procedure. Had to configure the sound to send audio via the gfx card hdmi, because some cmedia device was set to default. This confused me as there is no sound on the microservers? Once that was configured, i popped out the mobo...

Hey Abu. Yup, i do need the analogue out. Hdmi board (ie all digital processing) on my avr is blown, but analogue inputs work a charm.  I could have alternatively got a usb soundcard, or a cheap dac for the optical out from tv, but the latter would mean stereo only, and the former is not as neat...

I bought an Asus Radeon hd6450 silent and Xonar DX pcix card for my microserver. Will be installing this weekend. The graphics card is around R650 and the sound card the expensive bugger at over R900 generally. Online seems the only way to get Asus products?

I would start with a THICK pile LARGE rug. My tv room was an echo chamber till i dropped r3k on a 2 x 3m shaggy rug. Made a world of difference. Now i do have some low freq boom in the room, but will tackle that in time. Have bought thick blockout backed curtains, but waiting for motorised rails...

So while fiddling to fit sata cable as a stopgap with drive hanging out of the machine.... the door pops off! Thought i had broken it... only to realise its designed that way. And then the most amazing thing... in the inside of the door are 4 thick silver hex or allen screws, labeled "ODD"...

Matrix longest sata cable is too short....... molex to single sata power is r20. Double sata is r40. Ideal if you want 2 drives in there in the future. Incredible alberton had kits for r50, but sold out. wonder what the next bet is?

You guys were spot on. Feel so foolish. Only really need the one screw on the right rear - thats the one that clips in. I may need a bigger screw as there is a bit of play with the drive with the small headed supplied screws that came with the drive. And yes - realised after opening it s a molex...

Hi All, I bought an N54L some months ago from Abu on a group buy. Had it out of the box for a while, and only setting it up now. I got a sata dvd writer (LG R199 from Matrix Warehouse - seemed a good deal), and wanted to mount it, only to discover there seems to be some custom brackets needed...

It was reasons like this that made me loose interest in B&W. Should change their slogan to "see and be seen". Its more bragging rights than the sound in this case no?

I personally have found speakers and amplifiers to make the biggest differences, in that order. Speakers also dont get outdates as quick as modern digital components. So, perhaps a stereo pair of speakers and an amp from the forum may be the place to start? Decent dvd players also available on...

Im using the older discontinued Monster XP navajo white. Only because i got it at a ludicrous R10/m, and because the jackets are paintable and absorb the paint. Have yet to paint the room (too busy drinking this holiday to worry about that) but the cables are up.
