Funniest thing you've heard from a Hi-Fi salesperson?

I went into the same shop a couple of months ago in order to decide on speakers.  I heard the same crap about how good the systems are, despite their size.  I presented my U2 CD containing the original "With or Without you".  It strains any system, and they failed miserably. As I was busy...

    Sub placement

LOL! My second sub should arrive before the weekend, the single sub battles a bit in the large room.  The above +2 versus -7 is total greek to me, I just allow it to auto-detect.

    New acquisitions!

I did some investigations into differenct DVD players for my system, photocats in Sandton sells a Samsung 850 for R1999 (HDMI out), the reviews of this system was quite good.  www.avshop.co.za then dropped their price on the unit to R1900 after I pointed it out to them.  I also reviewed a...

    Too quiet

When I listened to a demo of the 3805 particularly the base fell flat to me, despite the salesman hooking up "more expensive" subwoofers.

    Web on TV?

Maybe call our good old Mnet's satelite services, I think they were probing something like this, but gave it up as someone that has access to their services are most likely to have a PC with internet access.

    Re: Newbie Questions

I was thinking of doing exactly what you describe there, running two sets of cables to the projector.

    Re: Newbie Questions

With the projector now decided, the next step is the AV-receiver.  The cheapest [[gulp]] AV-receiver that I can find that can handle Dvi is a Denon costing R80K. That is just WAY too much. I found a shop that still has stock of the discontinued Denon AVR-3803, which has upconversion for analog...

    Re: Newbie Questions

Hmmm, seems things are finally getting to a stage where I can make informed decisions.  Firstly, the panasonic is miles better than the Optoma A30/27, but then again, they are in completely different price ranges.  Remembering that my projector will be 5 meters from the screen, I moved it back...

    Re: Newbie Questions

Getting a demo of it sometime today.  It is an LCD projector, not DLP, should I be concerned ?

    Re: Newbie Questions

eina!  R80K!!!  The rest of the house will have to wait.  HP is busy sourcing that projector for me, and I will definately demo it before I sign on the dotted line.  I think I was VERY optimistic when I hoped for the entire house on a R40K budget.  On the projector I have been to three demo's so...

    Re: Newbie Questions

Nope, havent spoken to hifi installations yet.  Eish, but it costs SOOOO much money!  I think the step by step method is inevitable. I found the projector that seems best today, It's an HP product that just landed in SA, and is priced R10K below compeditors for slightly better specifications...

    Re: Newbie Questions

Thanks for all the replies, greatly appreciated. On budget, I expect to spend about R15K to R25K on the projector, and about R15K on the rest. ?I can't go over R40K, so if there is savings on the projector's side, it can be used elsewhere. ?Got a bonus at work :-D ?My requirements in short...

    Re: Newbie Questions

Firstly, great to at last find a local forum with enough information on this subject.  I have a couple of questions, and would greatly appreciate some advice.  I have I plan the following setup: I cleared a room to be treated exclusively as a home entertainment room, with half of the room...
