Streaming equipment - why pay through your nose?

Guys, I don't get it. Why would someone pay top dollar for a streaming device? Honestly, I don't get it. Most people already have an old PC or laptop that's not being used. That will perform the same function as a streamer. Even a Rasberry PI can stream.

I just don't get it? To me buying a ridiculously expensive device that only streams, be it internet, Bluetooth or Wifi is just plain snake-oil?  :help:
