Prince Alfred Pass (R339) road condition

I will be driving back to Bloem from Knysna beginning December and wanted to try a more scenic route, has anyone here driven this stretch of road recently? My car is quite low (Audi A4 3.0 with standard suspension) so I don't want to risk damaging the car's undercarriage or something on the gravel sections, unless it's been tarred recently without my knowledge? I've actually driven on gravel roads in the KZN Midlands which were in better condition than some tarred roads I've been on, hoping this is the case for the R339 too..
