Here's one for the whizz kids:

Downstairs neighbour has her DSTV dish (dual LNB by the looks of things) mounted just below my balcony.

Here's the question:

i.) can I install a quad LNB in her dish potentially, & ii) connect my OVHD decoder on one of the additional LNB feeds - without causing drama?

(presumably the extra LNB will work - if DSTV decoder were installed in my flat, though am guessing OVHD will point to a somewhat different satellite angular location. -  :nfi: )

Yes, but if your OVHD decoder is set to the Starsat SES5 satellite and hers to the Intelsat satellite for DSTV, you will first need to reset your OVHD decoder to factory defaults and then set it for the Intelsat (DSTV) satellite. The decoders don't like doing this too often, twice seems to be the limit but if you do run into problems you can call the OVHD call centre and ask them to reset it for you.

Of course, if your OVHD is already set to the DSTV satellite, no changes are necessary.

Sounds like a plan, - thank you F_D.  >>

The OVHD is still 100% brand new, sealed & yet to be activated telephonically.

Have a dish, and at the risk of making our block look Mozambican, will ask if sharing is possible first.

One day your neighbour might get an Explora and need to get a Smart LNB.  This has 2 legacy ports and 4 unicable ports, so should still be ok

Thanks Chris, - she has an Explora with dual cables running from LNB so presumably this is already in tact. -  :nfi:

(will take a photo to confirm during daylight hours.)

Noo Chris, the new ones have 1 legacy and 3 unicable ( I think ). New OVHD decoders can also work on unicable

Here are actual multi-angle pics of the actual dish install:

Definately know for sure that it is a DSTV Explora, and chances are likely a Smart LNB has been used as it went in around 2 years ago.

Question: If both cables are populated, - how would I connect my OVHD decoder as seperate install. (she is downstairs, & my flat is completely seperate upstairs.)   ... replace the LNB with a quad unit? -  :nfi:

If there is a dual LNB feeding an Explora, then there is a multiswitch adaptor just next to the Explora.  You will therefore need a Quad LNB which will satisfy everybody

One of these:   H/L and V/L come from the dual LNB and A goes to the Explora

Thank you for this useful insight , - Chris.    :teach:

If understanding correctly, the dual LNB will need to be swapped out with a quad LNB,  ... as a given.  >> :2thumbs:

Presumably the additional 2 x co-ax cables from new Quad LNB would then need to run to H/H and V/H on the multi-switch adaptor, & subsequently feed my OVHD decoder via one of the 4 x extra Multiswitch Outputs  ? -  :nfi:

Going one additional step further, - would it be possible to feed my own seperate 2nd multiswitch adaptor (in my own flat upstairs) from the Quad LNB directly, as this would simplify unsightly  co-ax cable routing issues (from her flat -> to my flat  massively) - & then could run the 2 OVHD cables direct from the dish's Quad LNB outside > 2nd multi-switch adaptor > OVHD Decoder > AV system straight ?  -

It would be better to run 2 cables from the Quad LNB to the neighbour and another 2 to your receiver.  To avoid unsightly wires, you could put them in trunking.  25 x 40 will do it

Dean Nilson on here is a good satellite dish installer.  I have recommended him to many people and he sorted out their problems

Exactly like so. >>   (do I need a duplexer in front of the OVHD aswell? -  :nfi: )
