Not sure if anyone will find this directly useful, but I wanted to share some details of the following project.

So I bought a NAD D3020 amplifier, which sounds just great, btw. Based on reviews I'd seen, it seemed like it was possible to lay the amp flat during operation, the way one usually does. The manual (pah!) instructed me to stand it upright, however, but I ignored this instruction for two reasons: 1) If it's upright it's easy to knock over. 2) My shelf is not high enough to accomodate the amp standing upright anyway.

Initially all was fine, but the first time I pushed the amp to vaguely neighbour-annoying levels, the protection circuitry kicked in and shut the amp down.

Suffice it to say some investigation was in order..
