I am an avid listener to BBC's the Kitchen Cabinet and one of the restaurateurs are always extolling the superiority of Miso paste as a Umami enhancer and flavorful additive to - well anything.
PnP heavily marked down some Miso and as this was, while still expensive, a once in a lifetime experience, I bought it. Upon further perusal of the trip this product took to land up on a shelf in South Africa, I can appreciate where this money goes.
It's a Product of Japan, with ingredients from China, produced in Ireland, by a UK company ! How's that for globalization.
Onto the paste itself. It's sublime. If anyone's never tasted Miso, try it, at least once.
I've tasted it in the past in asian dishes but never knew it was Miso. Anyway the claims for Miso as the perfect accompaniment is true.
This stuff is damn expensive at normal price around R190 for 300g !
