I need to tap into the wisdom of the group on this. Now that I've replaced my super sensitive (102db) Yamaha NS370 speakers with less sensitive (?94db) Philips 22rh499's I am finding that my Quad II's are not getting enough gain from the Maverick D1 Plus preamp/DAC unit. Its simply because the original Quad 2 preamp gives an output of 1.4v vs the fairly standard output of a more modern preamp of 0.4v, which the Maverick is probably delivering.
My question is; are there any high quality, preferably vintage, preamps that I can be on the look out for that deliver an output voltage around 1.4v? I know that both the Quad 2 and Quad 44 are the natural choice but I'm not a fan of the aesthetics.
