About to upgrade Receiver (Yamaha RX-V440) and am considering Marantz SR7500 and Yamaha RX-V657. Buying B&W MT-20 Sub-Sat system as have smallish room (18 m2) and 4 year old son so don't want floorstanders / standmounts that he can damage. Want receiver mainly for movies and music DVD's (watch / listen to lots of music DVD's). Have had one audition of both receivers with the MT-20 speakers, and will go for another before deciding.
Any comments on the relative merits of either receivers will be appreciated. The receivers seem similarly spec'd to me (Marantz slightly more powerful). Read good review on RX-V657 in Nov 05 What Hi-Fi. However SA price from dealers is R6990 (vs UK price of 470 pounds). Thus also considering Marantz, as dealers currently have SR7500 and DV6600 at combined price of R11999 (UK price 1045 pounds), which seems better value as DV6600 has HDMI connection for HD picture and will be getting LCD flatscreen soon. Would also appreciate any comments on DV6600 - have tried to find reviews / comments on overseas sites / forums, but haven't found any.
