It's an idle observation from perusing Autotrader and Gumtree - Toyotas seem to hold their resale value incredibly well, making them a difficult 2nd hand purchase (for me at any rate). For example - a 2002 rav4 with 200 000 + kms was going for almost R100 000, whereas a 2009 Honda Civic with 140 000 km goes for the same price. Maybe i'm wrong, but that's personal experience The trouble with that model of Forester is the parts cost from Subaru SA - R18k each for headlights. Both were smashed, so that's R36k. Bonnet is R10k. Front bumper is almost R6k. Just the paint was R10k, excluding labor. Parts cost in total was R62k. Total amount was R101k, car was insured for R90k. It is definitely blown out of proportion, especially when compared to the US prices. However, a Forester is just too much car for my needs. All i actually need in terms of "capability" is a tow hitch for my bike rack.
