I have hesitated to jump into this discussion, due to the fact that every person has their own personal opinion of what is happening in the world politically. And I have a vested interest in this technology. But here goes: For a manufacturer the cost of tubes are the smallest problem. Iron and copper supply is actually more of an issue. Hand wired amplifiers can be modded to accommodate just about any tube that is available. That said, not all tubes are useful for audio. I agree with you Winslow. There was a time in the 90's when it seemed the world of tubes are doomed, and in stepped Electro Harmonix (if mymemory serves me well) with better manufactured tubes and the whole business picked up again. The EU and USA started manufacturing tubes again, albeit for a very exclusive market. When the demand is there, the tubes will be available. I do not think prices are going up, but currencies are being devalued. That is why all prices are going up. What goes up, must come down. I am quite upbeat about prospects. There are quite a few tubes that have been neglected in the past few decades. The 6V6GT and it's cousin , the 6AQ5, and the 807. The list is long. Then there are the non 6.3V heater types that are still available as NOS. But I do think that mass manufacture of tube amplifiers might be negatively impacted by this war.
