Yes, it certainly sounds like I?m dissing the LS50 here. Here is what I think of the LS50: I have to say that I am genuinely impressed by the LS50, especially or its size. The extended bass surprised me too and its not a flabby or boomy bass either. Its just on the warm side of neutral (which I like), quite transparent and very smooth at the top end, which does take away some of the absolute resolution though, but makes it a very pleasant speaker to listen to. These speakers are gorgeous too (never thought I?d use that word to describe anything). The boombox has some other special ingeredients that just does it for me. The BMR (balanced mode radiator) Q-Acoustics drivers has a special openess and sound field that it creates and it includes you as listener in the sound landscape. I really feel like I?m there. Obviously the big Yamaha drivers takes basb down to another level completely and this also ads to the feeling of realism and being there. I also compared the LS50 to the Piega Premium 3. The Peiga?s timing, precision and resolution at the top end is unquestionable and unmatched, but that makes it a little dry sounding comparing it directly to the LS50. They are both very good, but have different characters for sure. The clarity of both also good, but the Piega takes an easy win here - that ribbon tweeter is really special. If I did not have the Harman Kardon GLA-55 on my desktop, I would probably keep the LS50. The HK is not as good as the LS50, but is so much easier to use on a desktop. Hope this explains it a bit better. Cheers.
