[QUOTE="alphabet, post: 602, member: 11"] Ok Skinny, I don't have my spellchecker running this morning :) Building your own speakers does have its advantages, but it is very much a hit and miss affair. The advantage however is if you start off with decent drivers, you can redesign to your hearts content and experiment. The experiment part does appeal to me, but time to do it is a factor! My plan is to eventually go the separates route and I intend buying a Rotel RMB-1066 power amp in the near future. This amp can be used as a 5-channel amplifier or bridged into 3 channels(150w RMS each) which I will use to drive my front speakers(R,L,C). My wife's question is WHY? Simple really, my current combination delivers the sound I like at appropriate levels, but I would like even more punch at low listening levels as well as have more headroom if required. In my current listening room the intended configuration would be an absolute overkill, but the plan is to build a dedicated entertainment room which will be much bigger, so I am planning ahead(well that's my excuse anyway!)
