@fdlsys I've actually never owned anything Yamaha or Onkyo, so my preference is not from "experience" but purely based on the old-school idea that if it's built better, it "is" better. Like choosing the weightier of the two to determine which power supply has the superior components. More than just weight though, I find the Denons & even Marantz to favor "curves" over the more standard box-like Onkyos and Yamahas. Now this does absolutely "nothing" for it's functionality or reliability but already makes them less prone to scratching. This kind of forward-thinking on the part of Denon is typical of their attitude toward their product. They are building to "last." My impression of Denon is based very much on what I see on the surface. The only fact here is that it's "my" opinion of them, which is why I stated first and foremost "for me, ......" Also, for me it doesn't matter too much about how many of their units are being repaired. This could easily come down to factors that are not measurable. If a friend's speaker repair shop is seeing more B&W speakers for repair than Monitor Audios for example, it could easily be put down to B&W's being sold 3:1 against MA. ALL electronics are prone to failure. Reliability of a brand, for me personally, is not measured by the "failure" itself, but in how a brand chooses to deal with such failure.
